The ARTIFACTZ workshop emerges from an interdisciplinary research project (same name!) funded by both Sentinelle Nord from Université Laval (Canada) and IDEX Université Côte-d'Azur (France). The aim of the workshop is to bring together a group of experts in imagery of aquatic organisms and experts in machine learning methods applied to the treatment of images. Finding aquatic organisms in such a vast and dilute environment is the ecological equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack, but recent technological developments now allows ecologists to accumulate individual images. Now, the problem they have been facing while studying these particular environment just got displaced... and the bottleneck in aquatic ecological becomes how to process rapidly and efficiently these images so that our understanding of rapidly changing systems, or the implementation of new monitoring programs could be favoured. We will address this issue during the workshop, and we invite you to visit the program here:
